This seemed interesting.....

The shift indicator seemed to work on the principal of target rpm after shift up and shift down.....

Settings for shift up indicator is the target rpm you want to achieve after shifting up.....

In other words, you are in third gear, you want to have rpm at 4000rpm when you shift into fourth gear. 

So you basically key in 4000rpm for up shift setting.....
